Buy it or Cook it?

This web page aims at answering that question giving a list of common ingredients - and if it's cheaper to cook yoru burger or hot dog or pizza - than it is to actually purchase it pre-made.

I think it's almost always cheaper to buy the food directly from the store - but once you order it delivered that's where they are making their money. Let's face it most people are lazy - and just want it now! or don't want to drive (perhaps wisely). But I guess pizza shops are making their case in the 3 dollar difference in prize between their inputs and the pizza's price.

Item Name Total Ingredients Cost Total Cooking Costs (electricty / gas) Price at Takeaway Store
Big Mac 4.30 30 mins at “3” 10 mins at “2” 400 W electric cooker 3.25
Pizza Hut Pan Pizza $3.95 25 mins at 220 degrees = 3000kJ = $0.20

vickipark2007@hotmail.com says: the thing is …these outlets are always going to make it cheaper…cause of the volume they can put out they buy the ingredients in bulk

Response: exactly so it actually makes economic SENSE to buy from fast food shops YIHAAA! you'd have to factor in transport costs to get to the fast food place…. (unless it's on your way home…) well a bike ride costs how much? how much energy does it take to turn the wheels of my bike?

—→ but what about……………….. the cost to the ENVIRONMENT - doesn't it make sense for the environment that you get takeaway?

if you want hot food - it's better for ONE guy to heat up his stove 1 time and keep it hot the whole night… and cook food for EVERYONE

than it is for each person to individually heat up and cool down their hot plates. and transmission line costs - to get the electricity TO

your house… hmmmm but block house is paying this as well.

—> the equation isn't the same for natural gas - you ALWAYS have to transport the gas - for electricity - it is ALWAYS everywhere instantly available - the flow of electronics is guaranteed
